Amidst the pandemic of the outbreak, everyone is trying to keep up with good hygiene practices to ensure the safety and well-being of people around us. The presence of the Covid-19 and adhering to new norm did not weaken the spirits of our children and teachers for the launch.
Our Kindergarten children were involved in the kick start of Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project on Monday, 13th July 2020. We focused on the theme “Keep it Clean! Keep it Green!” as we want to bring awareness to our children on the importance of instilling the love for the environment. We also want our children to appreciate how they can help protect the environment for the future.
During the first phase of our project, children were introduced to the theme through short videos and stories of Captain Green Book series. They penned down their thoughts on their reflection journals on what they understood about the environment. Some were also creative as they presented their ideas on clean environment through pictorial stories.
Children also expressed their ideas on their reflection journals the upcycling 3D art piece that they are going to create with their family throughout the month of July!
During the second part of our first phase of the project, children get to do more hands-on activity. On 20th July to 24th July 2020, the children learnt about the importance of saving the planet through 3Rs which are Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. They watched short videos about how trash can be recycled into a new item. It was an educational video whereby children get to think about how wastes or things can be recycled and be given a new life.
The children explored about various items that can be recycled as we introduced them to 3 recycling bins namely plastics, papers, and metals. Prior to the activity, circulars were sent to parents to remind them about items to bring beforehand. We also included information regards to the upcycling project for parents to work on for the period of July.
Children shared with their fellow friends the items that they brought for sorting and insert the items into the recycling bins accordingly. Through this activity, children learnt the value of recycling. Afterwards, they reflected their hands-on experience on their reflection journals.
Always remember our slogan, “Put WASTE, in the right PLACE!”
Our children will be back with the second phase activities of the project and they will share with you what they had worked on with their family at home in contributing their part for the environment!
