To reminisce the good old days of Singapore and relive the ‘Kampung Spirit’ with the community, PCF Sparkletots Preschool @Yuhua Blk 233 organised a PCF Family Fun Fair & Charity Drive 2016 at Yuhua Community Club, on Sunday, 19 June 2016.
The event was supported by Yuhua Grassroots Organisations and in collaboration with ‘Start Small Dream Big’, a movement initiated by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA). Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Ms Grace Fu, Adviser for Yuhua Constituency and Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC, graced the event as Guest-of-Honour.
The centre’s project focused on kindness and respect, with the aim to educate the children on the importance of showing respect to one another and cultivating the value of teamwork among peers.
The teachers believe that the ‘Kampung Spirit’ of togetherness and other positive moral values will allow children to understand, appreciate and honour the contributions of each and every generation in the community.
To widen their outreach efforts to the community, various stakeholders in the community were roped in for the event, including Shuqun Secondary School, Agency of Integrated Care, Aspiration Wan Qing Lodge and Loving Hearts Multi Service Centre. Families from various socio-economic backgrounds and residents of all races were invited to the event.
The pre-school children were involved in designing and making posters for the carnival, and even performed for the residents from the elderly homes. Participants enjoyed the lively booths at the carnival, which included kampung games, old school snacks and beverages, and a gallery of the children’s art works.
Proceeds raised from the sale of coupons at the carnival, as well as from the generous donations of toys, books and food from various sponsors, were donated to Loving Heart Multi Service Centre, a Voluntary Welfare Organisation in Yuhua Constituency. The proceeds will be used to purchase groceries for needy families and cover medical costs for the Yuhua Family. The sale of the children’s art works will be donated to the President’s Challenge in support of ‘Start Small Dream Big’.
Through this experience, students learned how to unite together as one by embracing ‘The Kampung Spirit’, and developed a stronger sense of compassion and empathy.
