UPCYCLING FROM HOME
As part of our SSDB 19 – “Let’s Not Waste” initiative, our parents and their children participated in a DIY (do-it-yourself) upcycling project to creatively turn old and unwanted materials/items into useful household items, stylish decorations or art and more…
Parents and children alike, penned their thoughts about recycling and its impact. All expressed their concerns on how fragile our environment is and duly pledged to do their best to make our planet a better place for all to live in.
To make this project more meaningful, a gift exchange gesture was introduced for the children to exchange their wonderful creations with one another. In doing so, we hope that all created items are truly treasured and indirectly enhanced the spirit of recycling.
Food for thought:
“For recycling to become an accepted social norm across all communities, two conditions must be met: it is socially acceptable and everybody else is doing it.” -_ Dr Catherine Yeung (NUS)
