SSDB: Coastal Clean-Up
Dear Parents,
On 22 July 2024, Skool-Ready children embarked on a meaningful learning journey to Changi beach with their parents and caregivers for a coastal clean-up; as part of our on-going Start Small Dream Big Project, protecting our animal friends. Before starting, the instructor from Young Nautilus gave a safety briefing for parents and children to be mindful of the waste they picked up, especially those made of glass with sharp edges. Skool-ready children, parents and grandparents wore cotton gloves and handpicked the waste at the beach. With the collaborative effort, the group collected 1.35 kg of waste, including a plastic spade, papers, food packaging, straws, styrofoam boxes, etc.
For the second segment, the children were introduced to the different ocean animals through the artefacts handling sessions. Animals such as seahorse, sea cucumber, horseshoe crab, etc. The children were able to touch and feel some of these animals and share their observations with their friends and parents.
The children learnt about the small steps that they could take to ensure that the ocean animals are protected such as throwing out rubbish in the dustbin, using recyclable items (bags, containers, bottles, etc).
