As we wanted to educate the children on the values of “empathy, love and kindness”, we decided to collaborate with Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) in reaching out to lower-income families who are under MSF’s Community Link (ComLink) programme. Aside from just involving the older age group, we decided to also involve the children of a younger level (2 and 3 years old) too as teaching of values starts young.
We executed this plan through two main parts: 1) Introduction to lower-income families. 2) Donation of food items, packing of these items and giving to residents.
During introduction, the teachers held discussions and showed videos as well as newspaper articles to the children.
Attached is a photo of the N2 children during the discussion.
They were asked what they could do to help the lower-income families and these are their responses:
-
Child A: I can buy battery for them. Gong Gong and Po Po give mr money, I can give them. Buy biscuits for them.
-
Child B: I have money in my piggybank. I can give them money. Buy milk powder for them.
-
Child C: Buy carrots.
-
Child D and E: Buy biscuits.
-
Child F and G: Buy vegetables.
Attached is a photo of the K1 children during discussion.

In the picture above, the K2 children were watching a documentary about the living conditions of the lower-income families. The photo below are based on the responses from them.
Aside from the discussions, the children were also invited to dance to the song titled “Love One Another”. This song talks about loving one another and be kind to each other and ways on doing so.
