In term 3, parents in the N1 class were invited to be involved in the home-school partnership. In line with the SSDB project, we focused on the value of kindness. We invited parents to be part of this learning journey by completing a simple activity involving their communication capabilities.
For the activity, we invited parents and their children to write a thank you note to our community helpers. We believe that writing a thank you note is a great way to let them know that their hard work is recognized.
The following were the step-by-step guide for this experience:
1. Observe/ask/talk to your child about various community helpers. Then, decide on one that you would be giving the handwritten note.
2. Ask the children questions such as,

Who are they?

How do they contribute to our society?

How can we thank them
3. Acknowledge your child’s responses and tell them that they will be making a thank you card for the community helper(s).
4. You may use a variety of materials in making your thank you card.
5. When the card is ready, begin to give it out to the community helper(s).
6. Take a photo of your child with the community helper(s).
