PCF Sparkletots @ Tampines Central Blk 868A has partnered Singapore Red Cross (SRC) for its Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project this year. Through the project, the Centre hopes to inculcate the values of respect and kindness in children.
Under the partnership with SRC, K1 and K2 children are enrolled in the Red Cross Junior (RCJ) programme, which offers training on basic first aid and disaster management. Earlier in April this year, the Centre had arranged with SRC to conduct basic bandaging training for K1 and K2 children. The children had also embarked on the Humanitarian Trail at the Red Cross Campsite in May.
To garner family support in reinforcing the values of respect and kindness at home, the Centre invited SRC to conduct a CPR & AED Awareness Workshop for K1 and K2 children and their family members on 9 July 2024. The Workshop attracted 11 sets of children and family members. Over 2 hours in the afternoon, SRC trainers covered first aid for choking, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillator (AED). Live demonstrations and guided practice made it easy for the participants - both young and old - to pick up the basics. The Workshop ended with a photo session with RCJ Mascot Carrie to the delight of the children.
Feedback from participating family members were encouraging. They enjoyed spending quality time with their children, engaging in meaningful activities and picking up useful first aid knowledge and skills in the process.
