“We need to eat healthy everyday, cannot eat McDonald’s all the time!”
As part of promoting healthy lifestyles amongst people, our K1 children were interested to find out more about how healthy eating habits could contribute to healthy lifestyles as well! As our children took part in a wide range of activities, they gradually discovered the importance of eating healthily in our everyday lives.
“Is our lunch like the healthy plate?”
As our K1 children began their learning journey on healthy eating habits, they started off with ‘My Healthy Plate’ as they were introduced to a healthier and more balanced diet. Our children were able to categorise food items into healthy and unhealthy, and they were properly educated on the right amount of food portions for a healthy meal.
“This section is all healthy one, then when we go to the other side is all unhealthy food!”
After the short introduction on healthy and unhealthy food, our K1 children went on a supermarket visit at the nearest NTUC FairPrice supermarket within our school’s neighbourhood. As our children observed different food items that were sold there, they managed to sort them according to healthy and unhealthy. Recalling back to ‘My Healthy Plate’, some of our children could even identify food items under each section of ‘My Healthy Plate’!
“I think cookies are quite unhealthy because it’s very sweet!”
Through the supermarket visit, our K1 children gained much more knowledge on healthy and unhealthy food items as they named some which could be found within the supermarket. After which, our children were assigned a simple task to draw two healthy and two unhealthy food items that they identified during our supermarket visit.
