Objective: By the end of the lesson, children should be able to identify the basic needs of pets and demonstrate understanding of how to care for and show kindness to animals.
Duration: Approximately 30-45 minutes
-
Begin by asking the children to share their favorite animals or pets.
-
Show them pictures of different pets and discuss how we take care of these animals.
-
Read the selected storybook about pet care, focusing on the needs of pets and how characters in the story show kindness to their pets.
-
Use the whiteboard to draw a simple outline of a pet and label the different parts (head, body, legs, tail).
-
Discuss with the children what pets need to be happy and healthy, such as food, water, a clean place to live, exercise, and love.
-
Provide each child with a piece of colored construction paper.
-
Help them create a simple pet craft using the craft supplies.
-
Encourage the children to talk about how they would take care of their craft pet and why it’s important.
- Give each child a small amount of playdough or modeling clay.
-
Guide them in shaping their own “pet” using the playdough. They can create simple animals like dogs, cats, or birds.
-
Discuss what their playdough pet needs to be happy and healthy.
-
Recap the main points of the lesson: pet care and showing kindness to animals.
-
Encourage the children to share what they’ve learned with their families and to treat pets with love and respect.
