The Year our centre decide to integrate two of the themes, ‘Caring for the community and environment’.
During the launch party, children participate in a discussion to share how can they do good for the environment, we then extended their ideas on how can we use the materials to do good for the community. Thats when the children chose their target to be the elderly from RenCi Hospital.
At the same time, the early years class were involved in litter picking to develop their love for environment from young.
The N2 and K1 helped to decorate the recycling box in small groups.
With the final goal of engaging the elderly from RenCi hospital in mind, children from all levels started bringing recyclables found with their parents from home.
Everyone helped to prepare the craft and game materials using the recycables collected, for the K2 children to use during their visit to RenCi.
This project helped to foster a sense of belonging in children, teaches them responsibility and empathy, promotes social skills and cooperation, and encourage active citizenship. The children also practice critical thinking, started practicing long-term sustainable habits, and how to make informed choices which will help to develop a healthy planet.
