Since the year 2013, Zion Kindergarten K-level students were provided an opportunity to participate in a yearly Beach Clean up campaign in collaboration with National parks and Public Hygiene Agency. This activity ties in neatly with our K1 Sea Creatures Theme. Prior to the Beach Clean Up, through news articles and videos, the children learned how pollution affects the sea/oceans and results in pre-mature deaths of marine animals.
We believe that Beach Clean Up is a valuable onsite learning experience for our learners. Through this activity, the children learned to identify the sources of littering and it deepened their understanding of the consequences of inconsiderate actions. A broken platform shoe, raffia strings, a helmet and even a rusty car key were some of the surprise finds in the children’s hour long labour.
We believe that educating and creating an awareness amongst our younger children, though are baby steps, would lead to a change their behaviours. Starts small, dream big, nothing is impossible!
