Sometimes it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person’s life. ~ Jackie Chan
Children braved the hot sweltering sun on 7 August 2023 and walked around the neighbourhood. During this walk, children handed out their origami flowers and a packet of Milo to show appreciation to people who play different roles in the community like the fruit sellers and construction workers. Most importantly, we would like them to spread the message of care to everyone in the community through small acts of kindness.
Everyone was genuinely surprised when children approached and handed them the origami flowers and milo. Their smiles reflected their happiness. Some even spent a bit of time to talk to the children.
The biggest surprise was when children approached the ‘Inspirasi PPIS’ centre. It is a ‘non-profit organisation and women association focused on women empowerment along with children and families through holistic programmes and services’. Though it was an impromptu visit, councilors there gave children small tokens of appreciation as well and children were equally elated.
One important lesson that children learnt from the neighbourhood walk was that kindness begets kindness. If you were kind and show care to people, they will return the favour and show kindness and care to you.
No one can do everything but everyone can do something. ~ ‘Step by Step’ an official song for SSDB
