My First Skool @ JW5 - Hari Raya Celebration

This year, the annual celebration of Hari Raya in our centre was as colourful as its festive mood. Even some children who partook in the celebration, dressed up in their Baju Kebaya. The parents get to bond with their children over delectable baked treats and fun activities that gave them opportunity to learn about Malay traditions and culture. Activities organised during that day were Honey Cornflakes making, Traditional Malay clothes dress up, Hari Raya puzzle game and small feast of Malay traditional delicacies.

One of the highlights of this event is the art sale project. Children from Toddler to Kindergarten 2 were involved in the project. Art pieces made by children were put on display. With the guidance of their teachers, their marvellous efforts were admired and supported by the parents. The time spent creating art pieces that ranges from handprint flower bouquets, picture frames to Batik painting were made for a cause.

Parents who took part in the celebration bought their children’s artwork in exchange of items that will be brought to NTUC Nursing Home to support their “Mama Shop” activity. This centre event is not only a celebration of one’s tradition, but it also served as a platform to imbue the spirit of charity and respect.

“Every good act is a charity. A man’s true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in this world to his fellows.” -Mohammed
