MK@Sembawang is thrilled to kick-start our first Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) project this year. In conjunction with the theme ‘Doing Good Together’, our K1 and K2 children have been actively involved in learning to show love and care for the elderly.
In Term 2, our children were introduced to the value of ‘care’ in class, where they learnt how to show love and care for the people and environment around them. This includes caring for themselves, friends, family, environment and the elderly.
They also read a book titled ‘I am a Little Big Volunteer - Keeping My Promises’ which focuses on what they can do to be kind to the elderly. It also gave them the opportunity to make their own choices as they went through the story. After the book reading, the K1 students made a card for the elderly to give to their grandparents, grandaunts and uncles or elderly neighbours. Through these, children were now aware of how they could make a difference in the lives of the elderly around them.
During the June holidays, our children then took part in various activities at home - together with their own grandparents or elderly relatives. They were each given a BINGO card and were tasked to complete at least 1 line (or 4 activities) with their grandparents. Some of the activities on the BINGO card include ‘having dinner together’, ‘playing a game together’, ‘exercising together’ amongst many others. Here are some pictures of our children in action!
Moving forward, we will be collaborating with our community partner, Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), who has kindly partnered us up with the Sunshine Welfare Action Mission (SWAMI) Home for our upcoming visit. Stay tuned to find out what our children are up to next!
