To build a more compassionate and inclusive society, we have to bridge the generation gap of the young and old. We collaborated with All Saints Home to create that opportunity for all to meet and interact.
From the packing of goodie bags to the planning and executing of interactive activities, each class had a part to play in this special project.
The prelude of this project began with two phases:
-
Class teachers introduced the “Start Small Dream Big” project. They conducted activities centered on building characters such as care, compassion, and kindness.
-
Concurrently, a letter was sent out to parents to appeal for sponsorship of food products and toiletries. A big ‘Thank You!’ to our very supportive parents for the generous contribution.
N2 children played their part in packing of donated items into individual goodie bags for the elderly. K1 and K2 children spent time rehearsing for two special performances. They also learnt how to play ‘Passing the Parcel’ and ‘Bingo’!
On 4th July 2018, K1 and K2 children spent an hour in All Saints Home. They sang, danced, played games, and interacted with the elderly. Smiles were given, hugs and handshakes exchanged. Looks of joy and happiness were apparent on the faces of the elderly. Finally, they distributed the goodie bags. It was truly a fulfilling and memorable experience for all.
Children shared that they enjoyed spending time with the elderly, and wished that this can happen again.
We may have little hands, but we have big hearts. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!
