In school teachers introduced to the values of “Giving” and “Kindness” to the children through Sharity channel educational video title “Sharity & The Soup Kitchen:Volunteering with Friends”. Children had post discussion with classmates and teachers on their reflections of what they felt and observed in the story. Teachers went through the different scenes in the story in helping children to reflect. Teachers brought children’s attention to reflect on how the characters worked together in helping people in need. Children derived to a conclusion that there are many ways in being kind and giving to people around them,not necessarily through monetary means.
Our centre had the great opportunity to have a collaboration with Secondary 4 students of Damai Secondary. The student carried out Values In Action programme with our students. This collaboration aims to nurture the values of teamwork, patience, creativity as well as being kind through creative activities and engagements among the children and with the secondary students.
At the start of the programme children had ice breaker game such as “Charades” and “Blow wind blow” for children to get to know and bond with the secondary students.
Next, children had creative table activities. The two activities that children explored with were “Newspaper Painting” and “”Friendship Bracelets”. The Damai secondary students guided our students in these two activities. When our children showed difficulties during the creative activities, the Damai secondary students gave assurance and patiently guided our students throughout the activity. Our students were also encouraged by the Damai secondary students to render help to their classmates who needed assistance to complete the activities.
At the end of the programme our students together with the Damai secondary student had a surprise from a special guest. Our centre did unveilaing of our very own “Gracie the Giving Heart” mascot with the presence of our special guests of Damai secondary students!
