Intergeneration Games Day - National Day Celebration 8 August 2024

In the month of July, the K1 and K2 children were busy preparing for a special event – National Day celebration. This year’s celebration is different as we have invited elders from St Luke’s Eldercare. Most of our elder friends are suffering from mild to moderate dementia and hence, the teachers and children must discuss and plan games that are suitable for them.

As Ambassadors of Care, it is important for children to build awareness and understanding.

Hence, in the initial stage, the teachers discussed with children about life stages and raised awareness about what does aging feels like and dug deep into dementia.

Having understood, the children and teachers then discussed and planned the types of activities that are suitable for the elders. We considered many factors while planning the games like the mobility of elders, the interests of elders and the resources that we have. As a token of appreciation for their contribution to building our country, children also hand made little gifts for the children.

We had a great time during the actual Games Day and so did all our elder friends. We sang the National Anthem, recited our pledge and did the national day workout with our elders. After that, we broke into groups to play all the games. We are privileged to have our parent volunteers to support us in the games as well as kind sponsors from GentleFoods, Zappy and Dumex which provided foods & beverages suitable for the elder.
