Good Shepherd Preschool SSDB Project - ‘Together We Care’

Good Shepherd Preschool launched our SSDB project on 20 April 2024 via Zoom where our K1 children and parents were invited.

We continued to collaborate with National Kidney Foundation (NKF) for the 8th year. Our project theme for 2024 is ‘Together We Care’, with the aim of helping children understand the importance of caring for the people in our community, as well as encouraging them to be advocates of spreading love and care to others.

Aside from sharing with parents on the SSDB project, a representative from NKF was also invited to share on the non-profitable organization and kidney health. The launch successfully ended with K1 children designing their ‘Together We Care’ heart-shaped card done at home with their parents. They then brought their cards to school to share their thoughts on ‘Together We Care’ and listed ways to show their love and care to others.

During the project, children learned about healthy eating through preparing their wholemeal wrap with healthy ingredients. While enjoying their wraps, children learnt that healthy food can be tasty too 😋.

In order to show our love and care for the NKF patients, children prepared a canvas bag filled with gifts for each patient at the NKF Dialysis Centre @ New Upper Changi Road. One of the gifts is an encouragement card whereby children coloured the encouraging phrases on the cards and decorated them with beautiful sequins to cheer up the patients.

Using their creativity, children displayed their love and care in their drawings on the ‘Together we Care’ canvas bags that will be used to pack the gifts for the NKF patients. They hoped the patients feel their love and care when they received the beautifully drawn bags.

Once the canvas bags were designed, the enthusiastic children packed the items one by one carefully to ensure they did not miss out any items.

Our ‘Together We Care’ bags contained essential items requested by NKF, including socks, sleeping eye mask, antiseptic wipes, ice cube tray and the encouragement card. The items were all generously donated by the K1 parents! 🥰

As NKF only allowed visitors who are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, whereby most of our K1 children are not, they did a pre-recorded performance of an English and a Chinese song for the NKF patients. A QR-code of the recording was given to the patients to scan and watch while they are doing their dialysis. We hope the performances will bring delights and smiles to them🌈.

Teachers visited NKF Dialysis Centre @ New Upper Changi Road to distribute the ‘Together We Care’ canvas bags to each patient. The patients expressed their appreciation and thankfulness when they received the bags.

It has been a meaningful journey for the K1 children. Through all the activities conducted during the project, children learnt on how they can show love, care and compassion to the people in need in our community. They are also more aware of the importance of maintaining kidney health by eating healthily.
