As we all know, the emergence of the Covid-19 virus has brought on a global pandemic which has affected everyone greatly; bringing on a new normal. When asked, our K2 children were able to talk about what were the big changes that has happened in school, such as social distancing, wearing masks, the cancellation of field trips and outdoor activities, and the inability to hug or sit near to their friends.
The teacher then prompted them to think of the Circuit Breaker, and invited them to talk about what they have done during that period, and the workers who are still working even despite the Global Pandemic.
After the discussion, the children then wanted to express their thanks to the essential workers who are working around their school, such as the grocery store workers, the medical staff, etc. The children discussed possible gift ideas before settling on two hand made gifts; thank you cards and cookies.
The second part of our Thank you project involved talking about why we appreciate these workers; such as thanking the medical staff for being around to take care of the sick patients despite the dangers of global pandemic, the teaching staff for taking care of children and still teaching during that time.
They then made individual cards based on their different forms of appreciation, and decorated them accordingly.
After that, we started to prepare our handmade cookies. The children measured out the ingredients and prepared the cookies by themselves, after which the teachers baked the cookies for them.
The children were so excited when all their gifts were wrapped and ready!
The children then went out in small groups to visit the working environments of their planned Essential Worker groups.

Despite having to trek under the sun to get to these places, our children were extremely ecstatic to be able to pass the gifts to these workers, and to express their gratitude to them in person.
Thank you to all the essential workers once again for all that you have done!
