On top of doing good for our own community, we also wanted to bring focus to the issues that were on a slightly larger scale - extreme hunger faced by many children in Singapore and in the world. We talked about how we could help others and make a difference to their lives even though we might not be able to completely solve the issue.
We decided to organise a garage sale to raise funds to be donated to World Vision Singapore as part of our centre’s sustainability event. We collected old or unused items to be sold and the children made signs to be put up for their stall. They also decided on which section of the booth they wanted to manage and practised by role playing with each other first in class to get themselves ready to sell the items on the actual day. Overall, it was a great and fun experience where the children got to sell and take charge of their own stall. Not only did this experience help in making them feel more confident as they learn to sell and speak to buyers, they also felt fulfilled in being able to make a difference in the lives of other children in the community.
