Our K1 & K2 Children at PCF Sparkletots @ Bukit Batok East Blk 241 embarked on the ‘Food Safety’ program for the Start Small Dream Big Project 2022.
Food Safety means access to sufficient amount of safe and nutritious food and is key to sustaining life and promoting good health. It refers to proper handling, cooking, and preservation of food in order to protect people from foodborne illnesses.
The objective of our Food Safety project is to impart to our little ones’ knowledge of Food Safety so that they can put it to effective use in school and at home.
The children explored ‘Our Singapore Food Story’ and learnt about where our food comes from, what we produce and means of strengthening our food security. They enhanced their knowledge on our ‘30 by 30’ goal and means of playing their part in three simple ways:
-
Choose to buy Singapore-farmed produce
-
Grow your own edibles
-
Adopt good food safety practices
Choose to buy Singapore-farmed produce
The K1 and K2 children enriched their knowledge on Singapore-farmed produce through the food safety slides and learnt the names of the SG fresh products and coloured the given templates.
Grow your own edibles
The K1 children enthralled themselves in growing their own edibles. Firstly, they excitedly decorated their unique recycling pots while learning about recycling as well.
They learnt about the four elements of nature that help the plants to grow: soil, water, air, and sunlight.
They enjoyed filling in and feeling the soil in their unique recycled pots.
They excitedly planted the seeds themselves.
They happily watered the pot and promised to take diligent care of them.
They kept their promises without fail to take care of them at home and excelled in growing their own edibles making them feel proud of themselves. Well done and kudos to all the children!👏👏👏
Adopt good food safety practices
The K2 children excitedly met Oscar, the Food Safety Mascot and enriched their knowledge on ‘5 key tips on Food Safety’. They created posters on 5 key tips, highlighting their enriched learning. They also enjoyed creating the ‘Grocery Fun’ models. Excellent work!👍👍👍
They travelled further through their journey on food safety by learning to select the food they buy carefully. They explored how to find the expiry date on different food items.
They stretched their knowledge further by creating their own ‘Food Expiry Tracker’ from recycled cardboards and had great fun decorating their unique beautiful trackers.
They absolutely highlighted their wonderful learning by taking the trackers home to find the expiry dates of the items in their fridges and filling in the details on their trackers. They held their heads high in pride in displaying the end product of their amazing learning journey. Bravo children!🏆🏆🏆
Their excitement and curiousity about learning did not stop at this junction of their amazing learning journey. They took it to another level by learning all the ‘5 key tips on Food Safety’ and highlighted their remarkable learning through Beebot. 👏👍🏆🎉Have fun watching their talents.
We ended our awesome learning journey on Food Safety by exhibiting all our beautiful and amazing work in the SSDB (Start Small Dream Big) Finale exhibition.
The children enjoyed the Singapore Food Agency virtual talk and enhanced their knowledge further. The session was engaging and interactive. They were thrilled to receive their token of appreciation during the quiz and the collaterals they received from SFA.
Thus, the seedlings of Food Safety have been sown in the young minds of the children of 241 and let us hope the seedlings flourish in their own unique way into their beautiful future. 💐🥳💕
