In the month of June, children from Carpe Diem Kinder Ace started their Start Small Dream Big Project on the topic of Food Wastage.
The representative from Food Bank Singapore came to the school to give a talk to the children about food wastage and what is food banking all about. Teachers also shared videos on the topic and discuss with children about hunger issue, how they can help to reduce food wastage and also helping the less fortunate.
In collaboration with the Food Bank Singapore, the school organized a Food Drive held in the centre. Children were encouraged to share with their family on what they have learnt and parents were involves by donating food for the less fortunate. Parents were generous and kind to donate the food items from their home.
With all the food donations collected, children begin to help sort them into different categories such as staple food, canned food, beverages, snacks etc. and packed them into the carton boxes. Through this activity, children display team work as they work together and help each other so as to get the task done. Well done kids!
After the food items have been packed, they were then delivered to Food Bank Singapore where they will distribute it to the less fortunate in Singapore.
This project has helped to raise awareness on food wastage and food banking. It has also enable our children to empathize, care and help others in whatever way they can.
