Father's Day Art Work For Charity (12 June 2017)

In their respective classes, children worked on individual art pieces that would be proudly

displayed and sold to their dads during the Father’s Day celebration. The playgroup children

worked with contrasting colours whereby they marked their unique hand prints on black paper

with white paint, and on white paper with black paint. Pre-nursery children created a fusion of colours by swirling splatters of paint together on a laminated sheet. Each piece reflected individuality not just by the patterns formed by the finger strokes, but also by the way the colours

mixed and resulted in varying tones and intensities. Specks of glitter were added in, which enhanced the vibrancy and aesthetics of the art pieces. To sign off their masterpiece, children etched their thumbprints at the back of the laminated sheet, reinforcing on their sense of ownership and efforts.

The nursery children handled various materials and grids to make a textured craft whereby each section of the frame showed a different texture, both visually and to the touch. For their part, the

kindergarten children to whom scratch paper was distributed to each child carved out words and

pictures of gratitude for their fathers. The beauty of the scratch card would be how the spectrums of colours shine in an unplanned range out of the black facade, and how children adapted their prints when “mistakes” were made. Last but not least, the kindergarten two class

joined their hands and minds together in producing an interrelated acrylic canvas board, which represented their feelings towards their dreams. When the paint dried, children chose a canvas to draw their aspiration at a corner, and then signed their name beside it like an actual artist.

Although every board seemed different and independent, when joined together, the elements of art in each flowed together as one. This signified how little individuals can influence one another and join forces to impact greatly.
