In line with our theme “Land & Water Forms”, we launched our project entitled “Earth Heroes: Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle”. This project aims to promote environmental awareness and protection through the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), involving young children in waste minimization towards Singapore’s sustainability efforts (NEA, 2020).
This project provided an authentic learning experience to help children recognize their responsibility and role in caring for the environment. It also encouraged children to prevent excessive and unnecessary waste, and also limit the consumption of non-renewable resources.
What can we create out of recycled materials?
Children were invited to brainstorm and discuss what useful household items or home ornaments they can create using recycled materials.
Our Nursery children decided to create Piggy Banks out of empty water bottles with the help of their parents at home.
Our Kindergarten children made Family Portrait Glitter Globe out of empty glass bottles and tin foil. They also made use of old toys to decorate their glitter globe.
The children demonstrated their understanding of recycling through the project, and recognized their part in planet preservation.
