Cherie Hearts Kids Campus @ Pasir Ris Elias Mall
On 9 March 2018, it is also during the period of “World Autism Awareness Day” from 26 March 2018 to 2 April 2018, we invited Ms Cathryn Ang, the Vice Principal of Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS), to conduct a talk on “Autism”. CPAS is one of our collaborating partners for Community Service. According to CPAS, World Autism Awareness Day for Year 2018 falls on 26 March 2018 to 2 April 2018. It is an annual advocacy campaign that seeks to raise community’s support for them and their families as they work through their unique challenges. CPAS also encourages all to show support for its students with Autism under its Early Intervention Programme for Infants & Children (EIPIC). The objective of the Autism Awareness Talk on 9 March 2018 were: i) To raise greater awareness on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) amongst parents, staff and neighbourhood community; ii) To raise awareness of the structure approach, resources handling ASD students in a classroom setting; and iii) To gain a better understanding with students/people with the ASD.
During the Talk, CPAS’s speaker also shared about methods as well as materials like tasks folders as learning aids for children with autism.
Sharing session for children was conducted with Puppet show to make the session more fun and interesting
After sharing session, children were each given a puzzle piece to decorate and colour. The coloured puzzle pieces were then collected and assembled together as an Art Piece for presenting by CPAS to our school. Autism on a nationwide level is represented by Puzzle Piece Symbol. The Art Piece reflects the mystery and complexity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As every puzzle piece is unique and accurately represents the diversity of the individuals affected. Overall, we had a great experience and gained new insights during the talk by CPAS.
