K1 children had the opportunity to try making Chinese traditional brown sugar steam cake (fa gao) as part of the activities while learning about the 4 races in Singapore. They learned about the ingredients required and measured the amount using measuring equipment. The children also helped to stir the mixture thoroughly and scooped them into mini cups. They waited with abated breath as the batter was sent for steaming. Alas! The fa gao did not blossom. The children still enjoyed savouring the fa gao. Finding out why the fa gao did not blossom is part of the learning process.
