Moving forward with our SSDB 2021 project, we partnered with our parents to build on the children’s awareness about the initiatives Singapore’s government has taken to create a more inclusive environment for people with disabilities.
The children were tasked to explore Singapore and identify the physical structures in the environment that have been implemented to help people with disabilities by visiting the library or research on the internet.
Parents captured the children’s experiences by taking pictures and compiled them in the form of a video or slideshow. It definitely was enriching for the children as they came back and pointed out on different structures or aids that have been placed in school as well! Some shared further with their friends the purpose of certain aids such as the braille on the elevator buttons and the tactile pavings.
We received such heartwarming feedback from parents, saying the activity was meaningful and was a chance to inculcate virtues like empathy and compassion in our young children.
