Joy of Caring Makes a Difference

For this Year’s Start Small Dream Big Project with the theme ‘Joy of Caring Makes a Difference”. We decided to show appreciation and care for Families & Friends such as Appreciating Mothers/Fathers/Grandparents. Showing kindness to teachers and raising awareness to the children of a responsible ownership in caring for animals.

Class: Toddler-Joy

I Love You, Mummy! You are as pretty as a flower”

Our centre launched the SSDB project “Stay Connected, Make a Difference” in April. This year, the toddler children are focusing on the topic of showing appreciation to their mother, father and grandparent.

During Mother’s Day in May, children learnt to sing the song “Happy Mother’s Day” with simple actions. Toddler children made a flower craft for their mum as a Mother’s Day gift. They painted it by using their finger prints and sponges. They also helped to stick the flower on the ice cream stick, which serves as the flower stem.

Children gave the flower to their mum during mother’s day and gave their mum a big smile with the flower . “My Superhero”

Daddy, you are my silent hero, you are my first love and the one who holds the family together. Today, I want to make a craft for you, to tell you how much I love you!

Children used the ice-cream sticks as a base and they used the air clay to spread evenly on it to become a background. They used air clay to knead a heart shape with teacher assistance and placed it on the background.

Children decorated the frame with star beads and flower beads. Children held their final craft to take a photo and gave their dad as a Father’s Day gift on Father’s Day. I love you dad!

Class: Pre Nursery

“Showing Care and Love to our Elderlies”

On the 6th of August 2021, Children celebrated the National Day with the Elderlies, Doctors and Nurses at United Medical Care Toa Payoh Branch via virtual Zoom Live. Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2 Children entertains the Elderlies by performing their dance items. Through their performances, the children learnt that they could show love and care by performing for the elderlies to brighten their day.

The N1 children with their Teacher decided to make something simple and related to National Day for the elderlies. They made Singapore Flag Bread for them to show their love and care to the elderlies. The children were involved in the whole process and had fun in making the Singapore flag Bread.

After the celebration, teachers delivered the Singapore Flag Bread to UMC for the elderlies to eat for their tea break and wish them Happy National Day!

“Raising Pet Fish”**

Children are always taught KINDNESS towards other people by Caring. For this year’s SSDB project, N2s developed more LOVE and CARE for animals by raising pet fish in our class. They learnt about animal care, responsibility specifically on how to take care of a pet and experienced doing it themselves. Following a schedule, children took turns to feed and visit the fishes. Some of the days, they helped teacher change the water in the aquari-um. Since day 1 up to now, whole class shows JOY in loving and caring for our ‘Class Pet’.:) They had realised better that animals are like people that need to be loved, cared and taken care of.

”Promoting Healthy Living”

As part of the SSDB project to promote healthy living while inculcating the value of Care at the same time, children were engaged in a Strawberry Banana Milkshake activity. This activity promotes the awareness that fruits can be used and consumed in interesting ways. Besides, it exposes children to the interesting taste of strawberry and banana blend!

A child helped to wash the strawberries.

Children had the opportunity to first taste the individual fruits!

Mhm… yummy fruits! Sweet and a little sour!

Children proceeded to prepare the fruits for the milkshake.

The top of the strawberry is removed, then cut into smaller pieces.

After the cutting was completed, children helped to assemble the ingredients for the milkshake!

Teacher helped to blend; children watched from the side.

Finally, the milkshake is done! Children took turns to pour the milkshake into the plastic cups.

Children were all eager to help and enjoyed doing the little act of kindness!

Yay our strawberry banana milkshake is ready!

Children exemplified the value of Care as they shared the milkshake with other class teachers, and their parents! 😊

“Showing Appreciation to Mother, Father, Grandparents and Other People.”

To SSDB project in showing appreciation to other people, teacher had used the opportunity in inculcating to K2 children the importance of night workers in our neighbourhood. As part and a lesson in K2’s curriculum, children had learnt that there are still workers at night who are doing job while they are in a deep sleep. Children were asked to make a ‘Thank You’ card using the template where they need to decorate an write something just to show their gratitude to the night workers. After making their ‘Thank You’ card, they were asked to give that to the person they know who are working at night.

To Firefighters, thank you for helping us when there is a fire.

Dear Bus Driver, Thank you for being an awesome driver.

Thank you Mr. Policeman!

To Bus Driver, Thank you for driving safe.

To Doctors, thank you for helping people.

To drivers, thank you for bringing us safe to other places.

In commemorating with the Mother’s Day, K2 children were asked to artwork which they will give to their mother as a simple token for them. Children had discussed and decided on what are they going to do for their mother. They were shown different artworks and they had chosen the crown artwork out of a paper plate. Children had decorated and design their crown as they made it special just to show their love to their mother.

Children had painted their paper plate with the colour of their own choice.

Children helped to cut shapes that they will use in decorating their crown artwork.

Writing a message for their mother that they will put on top of their crown artwork.

And here is their final product. They had given their handmade crown to their mother on ‘Mother’s Day’.

Another way to show their love and care to their ‘Mama’, K2 children had given short message for them. Teacher had recorded and filmed them and showed it to them via LittleLives Portfolio on Mother’s Day.

Children were asked to bring picture of their mother and had did pre-recorded video that teacher had sent to their mother on the ‘Mother’s Day’ itself.
