K2 Storymakers started our composting journey by learning about the 5 Pot System. The children agreed to take turns caring for all the 5 different pots of compost material in the class.
In addition to signing the agreement, the children also recorded their work in their journals.
They listed the things they could put in the compost bin, such as: grass, insects, apple cores and hair.
We then went to the school’s garden to look for some earthworms and other insects to put inside the 5 pots that we had in our classroom.
As the materials decompose, the children continue to add layers of browns and greens in the compost pots.
We are looking forward to the rest of our composting project in the next few weeks!
