The SSDB Project 2017 - We Care (And We Should Recycle Too!)
PCF Sparkletots Preschool@Telok Blangah Blk 78A is only second year into the SSDB family, but already fourth year into our own litter-picking exercise as part of our Clean and ...
The SPARK (Singapore Pre-school Accreditation Framework) accredited centre focuses on the six main learning areas: Language and Literacy, Numeracy, Environmental Awareness, Music and Movement and Self & Social, for their curriculum. Their mission is to "provide a holistic programme that helps children discover the joy of learning".
The centre also ties up with the National Library Board to run their Book Week yearly. Their teachers and children will dress up as characters in different fairytales and share their favourite stories with one another. Librarians from NLB will come to the centre to conduct story telling sessions and man the Mobile Library, where children can borrow books in the comfort of their own school. Through these activities, the centre hopes to instil the joy and desire to read in their children.
Besides collaborating with the NLB, they also collaborated with the Hua Kwan Moral Link for visits to their elderly centre. During these visits, their children would perform, interact, play games and exercise with the elderly, bringing smiles to their faces. From these trips, their children were able to learn more about their centre's core values: teamwork, empathy and confidence.
The centre has an outdoor playground which is used by the children when they go for outdoor play. They also have access to an indoor gymnasium which they use for music and motor skills development. Interesting events like the Racial Harmony, National Day Celebration and Food Fiesta (where children, parents and teachers are invited to buy food from the stalls operated by the children and their parents) are also hosted in the indoor gym.
